RMN – peluru berpandu pertama

“Royal Malaysian Navy fires its first missiles in the South China Sea” itulah kepala berita yang tersiar di akhbar The Straits Times bertarikh 6 Jun 1971.

Isi kandungan berita (diterjemah) ke dalam Bahasa Melayu:

Royal Malaysian Navy semalam (5 Jun 1971) melangkah ke era peluru berpandu setelah KD Gempita berjaya melancarkannya di Laut China Selatan.

Berita itu disampaikan oleh Ketua Turus Tentera Laut Commodore (Dato) K. Thanabalasingam.

Dengan kejayaan KD Gempita di bawah perintah Lt Ahmad Ramli bin Haji Mohamad Nor, RMN merupakan unit Angkatan Tentera Malaysia pertama yang melancarkan peluru berpandu.

    This was the first Exocet to be fired but I think the first surface to surface missile to be fired were the SS-11s from the Perkasa class.

    I read and reread the above post but could not lcoate the word “EXOCET”. Neither could I locate it in the newspaper cutting. Can you please guide me to the exact location so that I can correct the mistake!

    My apologies, it was indeed a SS-11 from a Perkasa, not an Exocet.
